Piping down the valleys wild

Piping songs of pleasant glee

On a cloud I saw a child.

And he laughing said to me.

Pipe a song about a Lamb;

So I piped with merry chear,

Piper pipe that song again—

So I piped, he wept to hear.

Drop thy pipe thy happy pipe

Sing thy songs of happy chear,

So I sung the same again

While he wept with joy to hear

Piper sit thee down and write

In a book that all may read—

So he vanish'd from my sight.

And I pluck'd a hollow reed.

And I made a rural pen,

And I stain'd the water clear,

And I wrote my happy songs

Every child may joy to hear

Tocando la gaita salvaje valle abajo

tocando la gaita con gozo y placer

en una alta nube y en un mar de risas

a un niño observé; que me habló:

Toca en la gaita gaitero

la gaita cantora

la canción sobre el cordero

entonces yo la toqué

y el niño lloró al oír.

Deja la gaita gaitero

la gaita feliz

y canta canciones de encanto

y entoné de nuevo el canto

y otra vez lloró al oír.

Gaitero escribe, un libro escribe

que entienda todo aquel que vive.

y ahí de mis ojos se fue

y de una caña hueca

tallé una rústica pluma

que de clara agua de luna entinté

y escribí canciones, felices canciones

para que felices niños las canten después.
